Hiding Out In Plain Sight – Again!

smartist, art career, artist identity, Ariane of smARTist

I know, this is not the first time I’ve disappeared from my blog.

This time I’ve fallen off the blog wagon because my life has been scrambled upside down in an Alice-in-Wonderland now I’m small/now I’m tall sort of way.

The story is as old as the hills: met my Prince Charming, got engaged, had full replacement right knee surgery (and for those who aren’t up to speed on this lovely medical wonder – it takes at least 3 to 4 months to ramp up to semi-normal!), moving out of my home of decades (now rented to grad students and musicians) and into one of my youngest daughter’s home until my fiancé’s renovations on his place are finished, after which there will be a wedding and I will move again!

Right this minute I’m sitting my in “old” home office surrounded by half-packed bags and boxes (and I have to be out of here in 2 more days!) thinking – yikes, my lovely artists have no idea where I’ve gone to.

My creative career coaching practice is still breathing, only quietly, in the background while I integrate all of these changes.

Over the years, I’ve worked with and talked to artists who have had to move and figure out how to become part of their new community.

And now, here I am, doing the very same thing.

In the meantime, for those of you who want to stay on this journey with me, I’ll be re-posting some evergreen blog posts that will enliven your creative career while I figure out how to get through this darn door…oh, yes, I see that bottle that says “Drink Me” on the table.

Let’s see what happens next….

Last week, in Part 2, I shared two recent success stories that were a direct result of my social media presence.

In this last part of the “Showing-Up Consistently ~ It Works!” series of blog posts, I’d like to share a few tips I’ve discovered along the way.

Consistency + Images + Articles

I do not live by a schedule. However, I aim to consistently post at least 5-8 times a week – sometimes more, sometimes less.

In addition to my images, I also post relevant articles. Interestingly, people have told me that they

In the First Part of this three-part blog series, I talked about how building relationships through the various platforms and connections in the social media world, as ambiguous as that world might feel, builds trust with our future buyers and collectors.

I’d even go so far as to say that building relationships is the key benefit of social media where its various platforms allows us to develop connections that can lead to unforeseen opportunities.

People – Fans –Follow Us That We Are Not Aware Of

Have you ever been somewhere socially and someone comes up to you and starts talking about your work or latest activity because they have seen your

In today’s cyber space artists around the wide post thousands of their images on various social media platforms, never knowing if it matters or if it is working.

Like a flock of birds in flight, our artwork images fly into never-never land. We don’t know where they land. We can see how many ‘likes’ and ‘shares’ and ‘pins,’ etc., occur, but are these people the only ones that see our images? Also, given the number of
